With a passion for learning, challenges and delivering solutions, Mary Reagan Shapton took a bold step in 1991 and left Steelcase to discover what’s next. At 28 years old, she started her own business in Grand Rapids, where she was born, raised and graduated from Grand Valley State University.

Fast forward 30 years and what she’s been most proud of is building a team and bringing stakeholders together to help clients develop strategies for what’s next for their organization—whether it’s for manufacturing, health care, small business or non-profit. Strategic thinking, innovation and design fuel her agency’s approach.

A generous portion of the agency’s time is spent on community outreach and giving back through mentoring and sharing team talents. RM+D supports a number of local and neighborhood efforts, and is proud to have supported the formation of FitKids360, Gilda’s Club LaughFest, the Refugee Education Center and Opening Village Doors. Mary has been on the boards of the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation. She is a current board member of Uptown Inc., member of the Wealthy Street Business Association and serves on the advisory boards of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and K-Connect. Mary is also a partner with 85 Miles, a Michigan based start-up company featuring lifestyle apparel and dedicated to preserving and protecting the Great Lakes.

In addition to leading a team of 30 employees, Mary has her own busy family of five that she aspires to keep up with—a senior in high school, two in college and a husband that’s always concepting a new project. She pays forward what people have come to expect from RM+D—hard work, honesty and doing what’s right (while having some fun).
